![]() So a couple of weeks ago, I had the opportunity to share my story with Tim Thornberry with KFB! I got to show him around my farm and papas “Lively H”! It was a great afternoon and I am so thankful for the opportunity! My intentions of starting my blog in 2018 “A Growers Granddaughter” was to agvocate, share papas farm story and everyday life at Lively H, and eventually my own farm(not purchased at time but actively looking), while following alongside papa in his operation. Learning everyday! Not to mention, not only growing crops but growing as a person, being able to connect with people, those who farm and those who don’t! I also hope one day I am a role model to others, especially the future generations and upcoming women in agriculture! Dreaming big! I have many dreams in agriculture that I am chasing currently and as the article titles “I have big dreams for this place” If your reading this… I want to tell you if you have a dream chase it, obstacles come and go, but keep chasing! Find your support system and motivators, and dream big! You can do anything you set your mind too! Also let me add, don’t worry about what other people think, if they aren’t supporting you they aren’t friends. Drown negativity with positivity! I want to thank everyone who is following along journey, and all the support! I want to thank my family and friends, and Aaron for supporting me as well but most of all helping me get to where I am today by believing in me! If you are a KFB member, when you get magazine in mail you will see! But if your not a Kentucky Farm Bureau member here is the link to the June issue available online https://editions.mydigitalpublication.com/publication/... I will be seeing Tim again soon around Lively H, when wheat harvest begins he said he will take the buddy seat with me! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #womeninag #womeninagriculture #farm365 #livelyhfarms #followinginpapasfootsteps #farm #blogger #agriculture #farmlife #agvocate #dreambig #chasedreams #farmher #kfb #kentuckyfarmbureau

GUESS WHAT?
LAST DAY OF PLANTING FULL SEASON HERE AT LIVELY H! WAHOOOOOOOO! Aaron is finishing up the last acres this morning!! Combines are coming out today…not getting in the field..well..depends on papa(he likes keeping things “Lively at Lively H”…so things may change to see where we are at with moisture… But wheat harvest is near for us folks! Reminder lots of machinery moving and will be moving down the road, slow down, be courteous..we want everyone safe! Also reminder don’t be a bumper bumper on the back of equipment, farmers can’t always see behind them, just like you have blind spots in cars! If coming up on a piece of equipment we try our best to let you pass when safe..we know you have places to go just as we do! Just like we don’t like the weather holding us up, we don’t want to hold you up! To all the other farmers, let’s have a safe bountiful wheat harvest! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #harvesttime #agriculture #farm365 #kentuckyag #kyfarm #agriculture #farm #farmblog My happy place, you’ll find is anywhere on the farm! There’s no place i’d rather be…
More hay cut, raked and baled today! We will start back at it again in the morning! After cutting....I tended to the flock this afternoon! Moved some lambs around, weaned a few more and brought to home pasture! Put up some cross fencing to rotational graze! Keeping some ewe lambs back to build up flock, but all ram lambs taking off next week! It’s crazy to think, second group of lambing begins soon! Rest of flock, is doing great! Well except Aladdin(the ram) he is a bit full of himself, needs an attitude adjustment…getting very aggressive, can’t turn by back on him.. But I’m gonna fix that..or he will be out alone for a little while and grounded from his ladies and candy (sweet feed).. Anyway heading to bed.. Night followers.. My name is Catlin, or as you know “A Growers Granddaughter” •I like putting Yum Yum sauce on my salad when going to a Japanese restaurant instead of the ginger dressing..(yeah i know not healthy who cares) •If I eat chocolate chip cookie dough raw, I pick out chocolate chips and don’t eat them… •I like ketchup on my scrabbled eggs… •I love an extra fatty ribeye…the best! •I like reese’s to be cold, I eat edges first..save the middle for last Judgement free zone this is just for laughter.. Your turn…in the comments! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #icebreaker #blog #womeninag #womeninagribusiness #tuesday
WHEN that one crazy cow has a calf… shew so crazy and a b****! In fact she doesn’t even have a number because…she’s legit that crazy! BUT we keep her because she’s a beautiful cow that raises great calves, and because she makes things interesting!
Today she had this heifer calf, and yes I was BRAVE AND made sure she was occupied when I went over to calf! The calf is beautiful but Papa said we can’t keep her for a replacement heifer when it comes time to wean…because we don’t need two crazies! Her genes are strong! When it comes to crazy cows and especially crazy momma cows, you gotta think quick, keep your guard up…and never ever turn your back on them…because they will get you… There’s always one in every….herd.. The folks that get this …get this.. • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #crazy #crazycow #calving #babycalf #ag365 #thursday #agriculture #farming #farmblog Took a little ride around the fields this morning to check on emergence before the rain…but I should’ve waited because it took a wrong turn and didn’t get to this destination…

unless it rains… We went ahead and put seed truck under cover tonight just in case! Got back to the shop today, to pick up papa, and decided to check heifers quickly before we headed back to field and before it got dark… And….found #48 with a calf…and guess what… It’s a heifer!! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #agriculture #farm365 #agriculture #plant22 #kyfarm #soybeans #calving #farmingneverstops #farmblog A week ago today on what started out as a normal day, woke up and hauled grain to port with papa!
Warning of storms coming, was planning to finish harvest, but weather didn’t agree! After delivering trucks we decided to go to walmart get groceries..get stuff for Christmas meals that were being delivered Monday. All normal. I remember coming home and texting my family and friends to stay safe, the weather forecast wasn’t looking good! Sometimes it’s hard to believe the meteorologist because most of the time they are wrong BUT boy they weren’t this time. I remember hearing it get very loud outside, windows creaking, watching the facebook live of weather, no power and very little phone battery left. Hunkered down in hallway, with Aaron and the dogs. Texting my family making sure they were aware it was coming. You see my granny and papas house had got hit before my tornado but it affected very few houses less populated area and they were okay! I knew the damage it could do and to be honest this was the first time I’ve ever got really really scared about a storm and actually took shelter. As the wind picked up we new it was close.. About a mile from the house… Once stormed had past we decided to get out and go check on things… I remember topping sandlick hill just by work and not being able to pass. I remember driving down 91 and only being able to get so far. Having no signal to check up on anyone, and another storm coming. Wake up Saturday morning and hoping and praying it was just a dream… But it was reality.. I remember seeing peoples houses flattened or damaged, I remember seeing debree everywhere, I remember seeing my work place destroyed as tears are falling down my face. But I also remember seeing everyone already helping, and seeing a community come together, clearing roads, cutting trees, gathering belongings…I seen linemen, rescue teams, and police all out! As the weekend went on, I saw more damage and still haven’t seen all.. Y’all my heart is heavy. I’m here to say I am so thankful me and my family are okay and my house is still standing as well as theirs! But I am hurting for those families who lost their loved ones, their homes, their pets, their job! Over the last few days of cleanup I have been able to hear stories, talk with neighbors and realize how strong God really made us. Every person I have been around saying, they will get through it, they are thankful their family is okay, they don’t need anything..I have been around people that are expressing thanks for the help when in reality no thanks is needed.. that’s what neighbors are for, that is what friends are for.. and that is what we are supposed to do! It crazy in the mist of the storm the strongest people are those who were affected. Those people that are saying they don’t need anything are the people that just lost their home. Meanwhile for some reason those who still have a roof over their head still are asking for everything. It’s sad…but that shows you how spoilt and selfish we are..(i’m unsure if these are the words I am wanting to use) It’s hard for me to watch people brag about doing something good for those in need, because you are supposed to do that. Hard to watch people from our own town or other states looting or wanting money from those that have nothing. I can’t stand people pretending to care! Wake up call to those: you should be offering your spare room, lending a hand: bringing dinner to those in need, donating clothes, food or money to those in need, picking up, cutting trees, or simply checking in. Thanking the linemen, rescue teams, law enforcement, road department, city officials for their hard work. To those who have or already doing that… you are a kind soul, selfless and truly a blessing. I have been able to walk around a place I called work destroyed and not really much we can do… I was able to see my work family come together, and all lean on one another. Actually was supposed to be on a work trip this week for a conference in Michigan with my boss and Amber Herman but..I didn’t want to leave after this.. This tornado has caused damage that will impact everyones lives forever… one that has changed surroundings, changed people, and changed outlooks on life.. Two words: devastating disaster No words will ever make this day okay, make it easier, but seeing all the love and support and help will. I just hope and pray it doesn’t end here…. I pray for those dealing with these struggles and for strength coping. May this change all of our outlooks on life.. pray that people always lend a hand, make connections stronger, communities stronger, realizing we can take nothing for granted, objects are replaceable even if it doesn’t seem as if they are, but friends, family and neighbors are not and realize things can change in a blink of an eye.. May we appreciate memories, and all the little things in life.. Here are some photos of the last few days from work.. Happy Tuesday!
I’m not going to lie to y’all the last few months have been very hectic, not only around farm with harvest, buying farm… but life in general things are crazy! In fact I took most of the day as a ME day, needing to breath, try and relax and just reset. I’m not going into detail but… things have been hard recently! Lots of change, don’t get me wrong good change and I enjoy everything I do, but also all the change comes with stress and time, and responsibilities and can be a bit overwhelming on top of everything else life throws! I’ve been keeping to myself recently besides family and close friends…WHY? Because sometimes you just need to take a break, look at life and focus on things that matter to you and those who support you and care for you, and also turn to the ones you love for guidance and listening! Focus on bettering yourself, all while devoting time as equally as possible and sometimes it gets HARD. And in some instances like the last few months for me, lots becomes challenging, and then sometimes it’s a struggle. On days your tired, but you have so much to do, you push yourself until eventually you breakdown a bit! Kind of like equipment sometimes… Yesterday was that day for me, to be honest.. I don’t always cope with things easy, I give my all to everyone most of the time, and I try my hardest to give to others before giving time to myself….but sometimes you need that little bit of alone time and to slow down…kind of like taking a nap when your tired your body needs that. But i’m working this week on a reset, a FIX, and a smile! So today I want to check in on my followers.. How are you? How are you liking the blog? What do you want to see more of? Would you like more videos? Would you like more educational post? Do you like seeing all aspects of farm or just certain things? I want to thank all that follow along and hope you enjoy watching and seeing the life of “A Growers Granddaughter,” and I cannot wait to see what the future holds and keeping you all in the loop all while getting educated and being able to give you insight on the farm life, throughout each day good or bad! XOXO A Growers Granddaughter❤️ • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter#livelyhfarms #womeninagriculture #farmlife #blog #farmblog #farm365 #ag365 Good morning,
Today is a day filled of thankfulness, full bellies, and family! We should all be grateful of everything in our lives each min, each hour, each day, each year there are so many things to be thankful for! Sometimes I believe we all are so used to what we have we become unappreciative…We get used to waking up every morning with a roof over our head. We get spoilt by being able to say we don’t like something, when some people don’t have a choice and have to do with whatever they have. The past two years many have realized life is short…and many people through all the rapid changes.. have struggled. Those rapid changes include anything from turkey shortage, toilet paper limit, fuel prices rising, input costs rising, labor shortages, loosing a dear family member or friend, being diagnosed with an disease like cancer, job loss..etc But through all these changes we should’ve learned and should continue to learn never to take anything for granted..even in a minute things can change. Life your life to the fullest, make do with what you have, take pictures, make memories, help those in need, be the best version of YOU, and remember you don’t have to follow the trends, and you don’t have to have the best of the best to be happy. Yes somethings in life suck and some things are beyond our control but if they are beyond our control… we can’t change them… so why worry and get pissed because all its doing is making you feel bad and stress..(my mom always tells me this) With that being said.. Even with high fuel prices..be thankful you have a car to fuel.. Even with stores having shortages..be thankful for what you can get whether it be food or clothes…. Even if your friends or family haven’t been there for you, be the bigger person and be there for them…Even if your not finished with something.. be thankful for what you’ve got done.. Even if you don’t have the newest phone.. be thankful you have one.. Even if you hate the colors of walls in your house, be thankful you have a house. Even if your kid has colored on the wall..be thankful you have him or her…Even if your parents work a lot.. be thankful for that..their hard work is providing for you…Even if you wake up in middle of night and get hot, be thankful you have heat..and not sleeping outside in cold…Even if the kids or dogs woke you up early.. be thankful you woke up.. ALL IN ALL BE THANKFUL… Happy Thanksgiving! Two things I want to ask today: What are you thankful for this year 2021? What is your favorite dish at thanksgiving? • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #thanksgiving #thankful #grateful #thursday #thankfulforeverything A view from behind the reel this afternoon.. and guess what you can see all the real through the reel.
You see a reel on the combine pushes the crop into the cutter bar…and then through the feeder house and then separates the good(the seed) from the bad (the rest of plant/chaff). The good(the seed) is put in the grain tank, the bad is pushed out the back. I think this a lesson in itself.. you see recently well majority of my life I have also rooted for people -friends and family-even when those people didn’t cheer back and still do to this day. I try and go above and beyond even for people that don’t in return! WHY? Because that’s how I was raised! I also am my worst critique. I mess up and I sometimes am “negative nancy.” But you see your the machine like the combine in this instance, you have to begin to separate the good from the bad, you have to drop those who aren’t rooting for you, you have to drop those who don’t check on you, those who don’t support you! You have to drop the negativity, drop the fear and drop beating yourself up over a silly mistake. But at the same time you need to take those good seeds in life..You have to cherish and put them in your grain tank and hold on to them, even if the bushels are small… family or friends hold them close. Make the auger rain with positivity. We all need reels in our life, someone who pushes you to your best ability, people that root for you not against you, people that don’t make everything about themselves or a competition. We all need role models and mentors. We all need someone to push you to the next goal, we all need guidance. We all need the reel reals! Not the fake. You have to be honest with yourself just as well as others. Life lesson moral: find the reels in your life, fill your grain tank with seeds, be your own reel! Life is to short for shitty seeds. Life is to short to waste time, find the fields that grow for you not low ph soils. Grow as it rains. In other words: Find your family and friends that support you, and cherish you and hold on to them. Cherish them and be their biggest fan and your own! Life is to short to waste your time on people, that don’t give the effort in return. Grow from mistakes, grow from judgement, grow from fear, grow as a person. Now you reading this, think about your grain tank, does it still have some unthreshed pods or split seeds? Do those pods or seeds need to be thrown out the back? Maybe it’s a bad decision, maybe it’s a mistake you’ve made, maybe it’s a family member or friend that has let you down… Whatever it is, be the reel push forward and be the best version of YOU, and do what’s best for YOU!
