Pongo, was the smallest lamb, and pretty shy at first. Now he is one of the first lambs to come up and eat! For him being one of the smallest now besides one he sure knows how to not let the other lambs push him around.

Here at Lively H we have a lot of first time heifers, getting ready to calf.
3 days ago, one of our first time heifers became a cow. The calf is now 3 days old, healthy, happy and nursing good. Almost three weeks old! Very spunky! Enjoying the nice weather and running with the tail up. Watching calfs play is one of my favorite things.
After brining the new sheep home, there was a lot to do.
This included: unloading, and feeding and watching making sure everyone was adjusting well with there new home, and other sheep! In the top right and left photo you will see one of the new lambs. Check out this sweet baby (girl) lamb! Born Wednesday night! She will be easy to SPOT, haha get it, because obviously she has a spot. Had a great rainy Wednesday at the farm machinery show! Visited a lot of booths and great vendors and dealers! Spoke with companies Lively H deals with a lot like Ohio Valley Ag-Apache, and Ag Central Co-op with McHale and more.. A day full of looking, quality time and of course learning! #McHale #AgCentral #ApacheSprayers #OhioValleyAg One of papas favorite purchases has defiantly been the McHale Baler, which was purchased last year, so of course we had to stop by the booth.. look around and ask questions! Also Plan next farm visit. Talking net wrap/plastic wrap probably... I stepped back to take a photo Checking out the Apache sprayer, to see what new modifications or changes have been made since 2018!
In 201, we were headed up to the show to see this machine and had one on order heading to Lively H! Uncle Johan- (operator) says his favorite thing about the sprayer is a smooth ride and the technology! The only disadvantage is a smaller tank! Before this sprayer Lively H had a different style Apache! Loving on the lambs before work!
Favorite place to get away for a bit! Especially on a day like today! The weather is so nice and makes a good break from homework, laundry! No bull here when it comes to taking photo, he’s got posing down pat!
1 out of 3 bulls around Lively H Breed: Limousine Color: Black Polled Side note: I think he really did pose for this photo. It may actually go in my house one day! A year ago, 1 week ago! I started my sheep journey, I saw a bottle lamb on facebook, and said I've had bottle calf's why not a lamb?
So I bought chops! Obviously the name was fitting! He came inside a few nights haha! Loved getting fed 3-4 times a day, took him into Tractor Supply with me the first night I got him! As he got older he loved to play and hit you in the back with his head when you weren't looking! Who knew I would love sheep as much as I do cattle! It was an adjustment for sure, new things. to learn and still learning. Fast forward a year and I now have 12 sheep, and still wanting more! Update on chops, I sold him at an auction, about two weeks ago and bought a new ram! I know everyone is sad.. I am too! But so thankful for the journey chops lead me on, and my love for sheep. Wheat update, since I haven’t had one since November 3rd!
Photos taken yesterday! Wheat is looking great! Loved riding around field to field and seeing green before my afternoon adventure with the cow/cows! Wishing today’s weather was like yesterday, lots of sunshine and temps in the 60’s! Who’s with me? BRING ON SPRING! (Especially since we aren’t getting snow) Part #2 of 2
I went to go get a snack and drink and came back and she had wondered off! I was hoping that was good! Hoping she was settling down, away from the her to finish her labor process! After an hour passed..no hooves or anything showing, I began to get a little worried. Because this isn't her first calf. We walked her down to the barn, with a bucket of feed.. slow and steady. Got her in the catch and began checking positions of calf and seeing if we could help or what was going on! The hooves were in the right position (front legs), but something wasn't right. The calf's head was positioned down between the legs. The calf was also a big calf! We tried to work as fast as we could with momma to get calf out in timely manner but the position of calf wasn't easy to work with, and we were to late. Unfortunately the bull calf didn't make it through the labor process, sad but it happens.. After getting the calf our we checked to make sure another calf wasn't in there and then gave the momma some antibiotics and cleaned her up a bit to prevent infection and washed up ourselves! When situations happen like this especially after loosing the calf you just hope you did everything you could to help! Thinking that if we hadn't of got her down to the barn and got the calf out, since she couldn't on her own, they both might not have made it! We've kept her inside the barn for tonight to keep a close eye on her! Gonna check on her in the morning! Post #1 of 2 Update on the cow that was calving today. This afternoon was tough, but part of the farm life. After finding this sweet girl in the barn, close to calving I decided to keep an eye on her. She was pretty close to herd, and normally cattle seclude themselves near calving. I watched her water break today, after getting up and down. You can say I was her labor "coach" today! (cheering her on, go momma go) I love watching! (see the video if you want) Literally got my phone just in time! I was hoping to get a video of calving for you guys but things didn't work out that way.. See post #2 "Update on calving #2" This sweet momma is about to have a calf
Stay tuned watching her close * a little graphic backside* one of my favorite things to look for during calving season.. yes I'm weird! She picked a great day! |
