Farmer or Farmher, Cattle or Sheep, Chickens or Turkeys, Fruit or Vegetables.. Producing for their family or producing for you and your family, producing for animal feed, or even home decor, flowers, blankets, etc… All Farms Matter, All Farms Make a Difference! All Farms impact you and your life and lifestyle for the better! When your eating at night, when your filling up your car or truck, when your using your favorite chapstick, when your carrying that leather purse or wearing that leather belt or kids are coloring in a book.. wearing your favorite hoodie, or drinking your favorite whiskey…remember to thank a farmer. Those are all bi-products from farms. Agriculture isn’t just meat, cheese, crops and produce, each part of agriculture has multiple uses in your daily life. Many crops have multiple uses just as well as most things around the farm! Did you know that favorite fall candle you have burning in your house is probably soy(soybean) based? Did you know that soybean oil is also used in many printers ink cartridges? So does this mean the amazon package you received today, printed your name in that ink, and you should thank a farmer? Don’t get me wrong, thank the person who filled your package and the UPS, fedex or postal worker for delivery too! But thank the farmer, for the ink and the fuel which got your package to you, or even thank them for what’s inside, what’s that item made of? And remember farmers aren’t driving prices up.. in fact farmers are feeling it harder, they are going above and beyond to grow for you and getting little in return…they aren’t getting more because fuel prices are rising… they aren’t getting more money because steak prices are up.. in fact they are paying more to get product off the farm and to you and your family. Anyways, take a look around, look at your products, look at your plate… watch the commodity market prices fall, and input prices rise and watch farmers still giving it their all in the field, rain or shine, sun up to sun down… and as always THANK A FARMER❤️ XOXO A Growers Granddaughter • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #agriculture #thankafarmer #harvesttime #SupportLocal #supportfarmers #supportlocalfarmers #ag365 #farm365 #farmer #FarmHer #allfarmsmatter

warning heartfelt post!
As many of you know, my mom side of family is from Zimbabwe! Papa actually started farming along side his dad at the end of 1969! Their operation included 2 farms over 150 miles apart! That consisted of 17,000 acres: around 750 head of cattle, 400 acres of cotton, 1,000 acres of crops! Crops they grew include: soybeans, corn, peanuts, wheat and flower seeds! …. had to sell farm in 1980 but not your typically sales situation they got NOTHING out of it. In 1983 my granny and papa moved with my mom and uncle. Unfortunately not my choice but by force! Leaving their farm, and assets behind! They came to the U.S with only $900 and a couple of suitcase! The rest of my family came over later! You see here recently, my granny and papa joined facebook to catch up with friends back in Zim, see where they are at, how they are doing! After reading some of the stories, it made me realize how blessed we are to live in this country. how free we actually are! We all are spoilt, even though you think the government is against you, reality is it could be worse! Another thing I realized is how blessed we are to own land and to farm, you see when my family and many other families in Zimbabwe had no choice but to give up there farm, just had to leave behind.. and not a penny was given to them for it! It’s not about the money but think about the memories, think about the farm being passed to future generations, or future generations growing up there! Could you imagen, leaving everything in the middle of the night? House, farm, memories, crops, animals everything. Even family, not all my family came over at once. Nevertheless, not knowing where you are going? What’s next? Is everything going to be okay? It made me realize how thankful I am for farming over here.. and being able to work along side my papa just as he did his dad but also him being reassured everything he has worked towards is his.. He started Lively H, from the ground…and grew as the years have past and still continues to grow each day. I’ve seen how much he has grown on his own, for the last 22 years of my life. I see his love for his cattle, his crops and his farm and family! I see the good and the bad! I see the stress, I see equipment breaks, I see a pleased face with crop yields or disappointed face when looking at the weather! I see and hear the stories granny and papa tell me. I see granny providing for family just as much as papa, farm wife’s are just as important! They provide the farmer that feeds you with a meal on the table when they get in or in their lunch box. They do the laundry, they escort, they take care of the small children or grandchildren! They go get parts even if they are far away! They put up with the farmer when it’s rained for three days and he’s got crops still in field! They birth the next generations of your farm, or family! I am thankful for my family, and their heritage! I am thankful for the stories they tell, their hard work, their braveness! It makes me want to push harder towards my goals because I see what they did for themselves. You don’t have to have it all to have or make a good life. You rise from what you’ve been through and you grow to be better. Farming is tuff, farming is fun, farming is full of unknowns, farming is full of decisions, and most importantly farming feeds the world. Farm size doesn’t matter, farm location doesn’t matter, rent or owned, used or new, yours or borrowed, farmer-male or female doesn’t matter! What matters? You doing what you love, you love your land, your family, your a part of supplying goods and feed to animals and food on our growing populations plates and your a good steward of land! Stay tuned tomorrow’s blog is their journey to US and how they made it here in Princeton! • • • • • #farmingstories #agriculture #farmlife #farming #supportlocalfarmers #agrowersgranddaughter #farmer #farm365 #ag365 #familyheritage #rolemodel #sunday #farmblog As I woke up this morning to head over to farm and continue working on house, I just felt a heavy heart!
So much going on right now, a bit overwhelmed, life in general, moving to a new house, repairs and remodeling, buying a farm, fencing plans, work, school, loads of decisions and steps and soon soybean harvest at Lively H and then my farm! I would be lying if a few tears have been shed this week! You see we can all, act like everything is okay but in reality your holding it together. Life is STRESSFUL, add 2020 and now 2021 in it, shew help us all! Lots of change! We all have things going on right now, all are different, some hide it better than others and bottle it up, some crack! We all worry, we all stress, some overthink, some cry, some have failed, some have achieved, but in all this we all get stronger! You GROW through whatever your going through! You friend, reading this whatever your going through… it could be worse, it could be better, it could be easy, it could be hard but IT WILL ALWAYS be worth it! Read that again. Sometimes we can’t understand why, or how much longer or what’s next! But we do know, even in the times of breakdown, you’ve got to push through. YOU CAN, YOU WILL and in the end it will all be WORTH IT! Today I decided to come sit on my new front porch, I decided to drink black coffee, (which my papa always said would grow hairs on my chest haha.) I decided to enjoy the fresh air and bird chirping, I decided to breathe and relax in the moment! Do you know how amazing it felt? I challenge you to find a favorite quite spot and just breathe today! Reflect and make a game plan for your week! If one thing doesn’t go as planned move to the next. I think i’ve found my new favorite spot here at the farm…soon those bird chirps will be mixed in between sheep baa’s! I am so thankful and blessed! Here’s to growing stronger as a person, growing as “A Growers Granddaughter,”growing as a women in agriculture, and most importantly growing to love myself and taking care of myself mentally and physically! Happy Sunday! XOXO A Growers Granddaughter • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter #livelyhfarms #sunday #agriculture #blog Agriculture can be on both sides of the fence!
Farming isn’t just always row crops, it can be livestock operations-such as dairy, poultry too! It could be greenhouses, nursery’s, orchards, aquaculture, beekeepers..etc Here at Lively H we do both row crops and livestock! To be a farmer/farmher you do not have to have thousand of acres, You do not have have the best equipment, if it gets the job done that’s what you want, you don’t have to have the best crop-top yield every year, yes it’s nice but some years are harder than others, you don’t have to have the best fence, you don’t have to have irrigation systems on every field, you don’t have to have every crop in the field or every type of livestock, you didn’t have to grow up on a farm all your life, you don’t have to have registered livestock, you don’t have to own everything you farm, you don’t have to have a degree To be a farmer/farmher you manage your acre or acres, You do what you want to do, you raise your livestock, you cut your hay, you harvest your crops, you grow vegetables, you love what you do, you work towards your goals, you are a good steward of your land, or land you rent, you have to be willing to fight with nature and weather, fix breaks, work year round, deal with input costs, deal with market prices, manage your time…you’ve got to be willing to get up in the middle of the night to check and cow and assist her if needed, you’ve got to be willing to work in all weather types…willing to leave to go put your animals back in…willing to learn…willing to get your boots covered in shit, willing to get your hands dirty…willing to work… Farming isn’t easy… but there’s beauty in it all, blood, sweat, tears, success and fails… everyday is different but worth every second. Whatever you do on your farm big or small, your farm makes an impact and is equally important! So much competition in the agriculture industry, when in reality we should all be a team the whole world is against us, and we are all feeding the world one farm at a time. Whether it be one row, one cow, one gallon of milk, one lamb chop, one egg, one roast, one zucchini, one jar of honey, one gallon of strawberries! We grow things yes, now let’s grow together, grow stronger and advocate for agriculture! THANK A FARMER! BE THE FARMER/FARMHER RAISE THOSE CROPS AND LIVESTOCK! Name the weed you see.. HINT: One of the most hated weeds! These are Roundup Ready 2 Xtend soybeans. Planted beginning of July. Can you tell me why these plants are still here and alive in this field? Do you think this field was sprayed? What can be sprayed on this weed that kills it? What are these soybeans tolerate too? What can I spray over this crop without injury? What height does this weed need to be sprayed at for proper management? What is the herbicides label requirements? Should I have planted another variety of soybeans for different control? What herbicide kills this weed? What does this weed have resistance too? What do neighboring farm have planted? How much does this weed or weeds in general affect yield? Am I using the right nozzle? Am I using the right rate? What do I do next year? All questions farmers face in the growing season among all crops and different weeds targets. Questions they are asking and wanting answers too! No herbicide will just kill everything. We all wish it was that easy! Nothing in farming is easy! Well one that I know of and thats gramoxone /paraquat which is a contact herbicide but that will kill our crops too! Normally just used for a burn-down. Then on top of it all you have to deal with public targeting farmers in anything and everything they do! Public spreading false information, joining bandwagons because they saw on facebook or a movie or cause the package says so! Meanwhile farmers are doing everything they can to provide you with food, from vegetables to fruit to crops to livestock! Working 24/7, facing every challenge… markets, equipment breaks, costs, labor, weather, pests… Meanwhile your sitting on your couch making up how everything they do harms you while your eating a mis-labeled product just to make you buy it. That label your paying for that says Non-GMO that has NO GMO crops in it. But you had to get it because it said it, so you believe it! Can you tell me the 10 GMO crops in the U.S off the top of your head that are on the market? Instead how about you ask questions to your local farmers. If you have a concern express it and hear the truth from the farm itself! Ask how it’s helping their farm. Why or when do they do this! Go out and watch harvest or hay being cut! Hot, Cold, Rain or Shine! Heck sign yourself up for a days work on a farm, everyday is different! See if you could do it! Yes there are farms, that have done bad things but there are also bad people in the world does that mean me and you are the same? No! Support local farms, get fresh produce rather than buying that package at walmart that was imported here and probably a few weeks old! Ever notice you can pick fresh produce or buy and it last longer than produce you buy from walmart! How is it that people think it’s cool to crossbred dogs to make a big dog, little or take certain characteristics. Like a pomsky! BUT a farmer gets a bad reputation for trying to improve genetics with technology in crops or livestock? I want to say its because they don’t care or have no interest in farms or farmers! (and that hurts to say) People who just want to talk about how bad everything is and don’t remember farmers are important and provide you with so much while they are getting little in return… Why do they care about that dog that is a hybrid? Well because it’s something they want, it’s cool, it’s trending and they think it’s cute.. (i’m guilty too, they are cute) even though it may only live 10+ years it makes us happy… Well guess what folks you have to eat to survive, I don’t know about you but food makes me happy too! (obliviously, hangry is real thing) Crops don’t just don’t grow themselves, livestock doesn’t tend themselves, clothes don’t just exist! Products you use daily don’t just appear overnight! Yes, we can import things…sure but y’all keep complaining about prices going up.. Why don’t we support the agriculture industry because it keeps providing and let me tell you the prices in return to grower aren’t the best but they still do it for YOU, and your family and they enjoy it! I am here to agvocate, answer those questions on misleading information, show you farm life be open, show you the good and bad days, show you everything from calf being pulled, lamb born premature, fields being sprayed, cows being vaccinated, sheep running to sound of bucket shaking, crops being harvested, maintence or even the desk piled of bills to keep farm running! Happy Wednesday, Rant over, SHARE, Agvocate and support the Agriculture industry, big or small they all matter. Support your farmers! Thank a farmer, STOP spreading all false “shit”.. around here we use that as fertilizer❤️ Drop a ❤️ in comments if you support our farmers and the agriculture industry! After searching and countless let downs! I finally signed for a farm today! I am extremely excited, blessed and so thankful for my support system behind me, my family and Aaron! Thankful for them pushing me to chase all my dreams! I’ve cried tears of joy and sadness! I’ve had a heck of an experience finding a farm but this one seemed so effortless! But putting my trust in God and I knew he would lead me to the right one, when it was meant to be it would be! I am so thankful for Mary Beth, her guidance throughout this whole process, a great loan officer, and cannot wait to continue to do business together! I am thankful for the previous farm owners Carl and Gail! I’m thankful for the opportunity they have given me in purchasing their farm! You all hold a special place in my heart! Most importantly I cannot wait to cook meals in my kitchen just like my granny! Host family events! Call my mom and dad to come help me fix something at my house! I can’t wait to hopefully settle down with Aaron and raise kids here one day together. So many memories with friends and family that I cannot wait to make here! And last I can’t wait to follow in my papas footsteps in agriculture! I cannot wait to see where this farm takes me, I cannot wait to wake up and see my sheep off the porch. I can’t wait to watch the crops grow, just as I grow as a women in agriculture! Next up fencing, moving in, buying more sheep, soybean harvest….let the journey begin! • • • • • #agrowersgranddaughter#kentucky#womeninag#happyday#biggirlpurchase #chasingdreams
Thankful for today, being able to finally have an in person field day at UKREC! It feels like forever...thanks to covid! Thankful to be able to show company representatives and farmers and extension agents/associates all of our plot work! To be honest three years ago....is how it all started with my internship with Weed Science, and being honest... I wasn't sure if I was going to like it! I didn't know many weed species, I didn't know what chemicals to spray for certain species. I barely knew anything and thats even growing up on a farm! I never asked, I just knew they were going to spray and that was good enough for me! I knew basic weeds and of course Roundup and yes I could've learned more but I didn't think I'd be so interested! But things changed quick! Who knew I would find joy in being right on what herbicide to spray or what weed is that or identifying herbicide damage! The only thing I'm not a fan of is counting the weeds especially waterhemp but looking like there will be a lot of that in the next coming years thanks to my project! Thankful for the people I work with, and all the experience and knowledge I have and continue to gain! Happy Saturday!
Soybeans have changed so much over the last week! Won't be long, harvest time is near! Man...I can think so many negative things that have happened in August BUT...
