Agriculture can be on both sides of the fence!
Farming isn’t just always row crops, it can be livestock operations-such as dairy, poultry too! It could be greenhouses, nursery’s, orchards, aquaculture, beekeepers..etc Here at Lively H we do both row crops and livestock! To be a farmer/farmher you do not have to have thousand of acres, You do not have have the best equipment, if it gets the job done that’s what you want, you don’t have to have the best crop-top yield every year, yes it’s nice but some years are harder than others, you don’t have to have the best fence, you don’t have to have irrigation systems on every field, you don’t have to have every crop in the field or every type of livestock, you didn’t have to grow up on a farm all your life, you don’t have to have registered livestock, you don’t have to own everything you farm, you don’t have to have a degree To be a farmer/farmher you manage your acre or acres, You do what you want to do, you raise your livestock, you cut your hay, you harvest your crops, you grow vegetables, you love what you do, you work towards your goals, you are a good steward of your land, or land you rent, you have to be willing to fight with nature and weather, fix breaks, work year round, deal with input costs, deal with market prices, manage your time…you’ve got to be willing to get up in the middle of the night to check and cow and assist her if needed, you’ve got to be willing to work in all weather types…willing to leave to go put your animals back in…willing to learn…willing to get your boots covered in shit, willing to get your hands dirty…willing to work… Farming isn’t easy… but there’s beauty in it all, blood, sweat, tears, success and fails… everyday is different but worth every second. Whatever you do on your farm big or small, your farm makes an impact and is equally important! So much competition in the agriculture industry, when in reality we should all be a team the whole world is against us, and we are all feeding the world one farm at a time. Whether it be one row, one cow, one gallon of milk, one lamb chop, one egg, one roast, one zucchini, one jar of honey, one gallon of strawberries! We grow things yes, now let’s grow together, grow stronger and advocate for agriculture! THANK A FARMER! BE THE FARMER/FARMHER RAISE THOSE CROPS AND LIVESTOCK!
